Tech and Computing

I’ve been interested in IT work ever since I started running game servers for friends many years ago. From there I began to learn about Linux, networking and hardware, eventually culminating in my current interest in infrastructure and automation. Along the way I’ve dabbled in quite a few different IT fields and learned some languages (current favorite: Rust), but I’ve always found myself drawn back to backend/infra work While many of my IT skills are self-taught (especially when it comes to hardware and Linux), I also am qualified as a “Fachinformatiker für Systemintegration” (Sysadmin) by trade and also have Masters Degree in Computer Science. I’ve also built some projects along the way - you can find more information about them here.

Birding and Photography

Whenever I don’t feel like staring at a computer screen I tend to spend my time outdoors, preferably close to nature and wildlife. I’ve been a casual birder and hobby photographer for years, so I often combine those hobbies by carrying around a big camera and lens with me. Besides birding I also enjoy landscape photography, especially analog - I find manual and mechanical cameras to be a nice change of pace from the highly complex and automated IT landscape of today.

Games

I play my fair share of video games, particularly strategy and builder titles (such as Civilization, Cities Skylines or Factorio). I also enjoy narrative-driven experiences such as TTRPGs (Baldurs Gate 3) or Outer Wilds, as well as the occasional physical Dungeons and Dragons session.
